Mold Removal in Mound House, NV

Mound House is the stretch of U.S. 50 just past the Carson City line, at about 4,970 feet, where the highway starts down toward Dayton. It was a Pony Express stop in 1860 and a railroad junction after 1880, when the Carson and Colorado met the Virginia and Truckee here, and the gypsum operations that made "Empire" plaster for San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake still mine and mill on the hills above the road.

Housing is a mix the rest of the valley does not have: manufactured homes and site-built houses on large unincorporated Lyon County lots, small shops and industrial buildings along the highway, and a few older ranch houses. A lot of the homes sit on piers or block stem walls with a skirted crawl space underneath, and many are on their own well and septic.

Mound House mold, under the skirting

A manufactured home with a torn belly wrap and a supply line that froze under it is the classic call here, and it ends in crawl space mold remediation once someone gets under the skirting with a light. Bathrooms in older single-wides with no working fan are steady bathroom mold removal work. When a wall has been wet from a window or a swamp cooler line, mold removal opens it and reads the framing.

Two counties meet at Mound House

Water and sewer for the parts of Mound House on a system come from Lyon County Utilities, which serves Mound House and Dayton; homes on wells are on their own for the supply side. Rebuild permits go through Lyon County, not Carson City, even though the mailing address says Carson City.

The rebuilt Virginia and Truckee Railway runs its Carson City to Virginia City trains through Mound House, on roughly the grade the original line used until 1938.
